Isolatore Galvanico 16A VDI-16 Victron

The Victron VDI-16 Galvanic Isolator protects the boat against electrolytic corrosion caused by galvanic currents entering through the shore power grounding connection.
These low-voltage direct current (DC) stray currents, often unnoticed, can accelerate corrosion of submerged metal parts such as the hull, propeller, shaft, stern drive and other underwater metallic components.
The device is installed directly on the grounding conductor of the shore AC power connection and blocks unwanted galvanic currents without affecting the safety of the electrical system.
Internally, the VDI-16 uses two diodes connected in an antiparallel configuration, allowing current to pass in both directions only when the voltage exceeds a threshold of approximately 1.4 VDC. This effectively blocks low-voltage galvanic currents while still allowing fault currents to pass safely when required.
Compact, reliable and specifically designed for marine environments, the VDI-16 is an effective solution for increasing the protection and lifespan of the boat’s metal components.

The isolator is installed directly behind the boat’s 230V shore power connection. The forward voltage of the galvanic isolator is higher than the potential difference between metals, preventing conduction and therefore stopping electrolytic currents. However, in the event of a higher voltage fault in the AC circuit, the diodes will allow current to pass, enabling the residual current device (RCD) to disconnect the circuit safely.
